Self Study #1

Week One

So, here we are… week one.

For this week I decided to model the EMI REDD.17 mixing desk that you can find at Frying Pan in MONA. This desk is pretty cool - it was used at Abbey Road Studios by the likes of The Beatles and Pink Floyd before being purchased by David Roper and moved to Frying Pan studios in the MONA gallery.

Proof that I am not in fact bullshitting and this is something found at a Tasmanian tourist attraction can be found here and here.

Here is how the model turned out: model of the mixing desk another one

The model was pretty straightforward to make, I got to employ a cool snapping technique to align the knobs and dials to sit on the top surface of the bench:

I made most of the model using a reference image from Abbey Roads website (that i found using google images) which can be found here

The Barrel.

Ah yes, the barrel. I decided to jazz up my barrel a bit beyond the tutorial that we were linked. So I added some shaders and messed around until I was happy-ish with the result. I still think it looks a little cartoonish and I could have done better with the drawn planks but eh, it’s fine it’s cool.
